The HP e9110t would be an awesome hardware platform for Final Cut
Express and a lot cheaper than a Mac Pro.

Perseid Meteor Aug 11, 2009 from Woodstock, IL

Posted on the August 12th, 2009 under Uncategorized by Al

While watching the Perseid Meteor Shower, I was manually firing off 30 second exposures with my Canon T1i and a 55mm lens at f/1.8 mounted a on tripod. From the few dozen photos I took, only one captured a meteor. If you look closely near the bottom of the image, you’ll also see a faint satellite trail.

Crowd-sourced Horse Race Wagers

Posted on the August 6th, 2009 under Leisure,Sports by Al

For a few years now, we’ve made it an annual event to attend the International Day of Racing at Arlington Race Track. We’ll be going again this Saturday, August 8, 2009.

This year I’ve decided to test the “wisdom of the masses” and crowd-source the wagering on some of the races. I selected four races, including the Arlington Million, in which I’d like you to help decide which horses to wager on. I’ve created a survey where I list the poll position, horse’s name, origin and odds for each horse. I will wager $10 on each of the horses selected by most popular vote and report the results here on Sunday.

Place your bets… I mean, pick your horses before 8am on Saturday August 8, 2009:

Please share this with your family and friends so we can get as many votes as possible.

Help fight cancer by going to a party: Walla-Pa-Looza

Posted on the July 31st, 2009 under Personal by Al

Look around you at four other people. Odds are that one of you may get cancer. Why not help the American Cancer Society by attending a party?

What party?

Walla-Pa-Looza!

Walla-Pa-Looza was started by a guy that saw a need to party and raise money at the same time.

Walla-Pa-Looza is about good bands, good friends, good food, and a good cause.

Money raised at the event will benefit the American Cancer Society.

The event will be held at the Johnsburg Community Club, 2315 W. Church Street, Johnsburg, Illinois and will feature four live bands playing throughout the day:

  • Blush
  • Peter & The Versatiles
  • Danny & The Devils
  • Always Frantic

How much did you spend on Starbucks or other coffee this week?
A mere $5.00 donation gets you into Walla-Pa-Looza and kids under 12 are free.

Walla-Pa-Looza  runs from 2:00pm-11:00pm

In addition to the bands, there will be a 50/50 Raffle, Silent Auction, Ticket Raffle, Activities for the children and more Food and beverages will be provided for purchase on site.

For more information, or to make a donation at any time:

Also, the organizers of the event received some sad news as seen in this week in the Northwest Herald, which just reinforces the need for your participation in this event to help it succeed:
